Winton Woods facilities update: stadium fencing done; baseball renovation planned after permitting

Jeremy Day, executive director of business affairs, briefed the board on several facilities projects during the March 31 meeting.
Day said the district started the permitting process for a central-office parking-lot scope with the City of Forest Park and paused bidding while permitting questions are answered. "We held off the bid process because we wanted to go to the permitting first," Day said.
Stadium fencing work is complete and took about a week and a half, Day reported. The vendor replaced windscreen material and installed a black vinyl-coated fence around the stadium.
The baseball field project is a priority but the district determined full artificial turf was cost-prohibitive this year. Day told the board an artificial turf option would have been "upwards of a half million" dollars once subbase work was included. Instead, the plan now is a substantial infield renovation: regrading to fix ponding along the first-base line, replacing dugouts, removing and replacing the backstop and foul-line fencing (Day said the backstop will be approximately 30 feet high and will require permitting), and installing a concrete pad to accommodate additional bleacher seating. The district will meet with a scoreboard vendor. District staff said dugouts, fences and a new pad will be built to allow future upgrades.
Day also proposed installing state-championship signage on the athletic building exterior to showcase community history. He read a list of historic championships the district intends to display, including: Green Hills baseball (1956), Green Hills cross country (1986), Forest Park girls basketball (1984), Forest Park boys track (1988-89), Winton Woods football (2002, 2009), and Winton Woods girls basketball (2025). The board supported the idea and asked staff to obtain quotes for fence graphics and windscreen replacement options.
Board members asked about fundraising and local business donations to offset costs, public-address options for the baseball field and seating improvements. Day said quotes are being obtained and that some elements (fence windscreen, concrete pads) should be relatively straightforward once permitting is resolved.
The board received the update; no formal action was required on the facilities items during the meeting.
