Showa schedules April 4 day of service; volunteers already signed up

Christine Schmidt, complaints manager at Showa, told the Sun City clubs meeting that the organization will hold a spring day of service on April 4 to help residents who are financially or physically unable to maintain yards.
Schmidt said Showa's October event drew more than 100 volunteers who cleaned 12 properties at an estimated cost savings of $35,000. "One of the many goals of Showa is to support and educate our community," she said, and the April event is intended to "get the weeds before they start popping up."
Schmidt said about 100 volunteers were already signed up at the time of the meeting and that participating groups include the sheriff's department, the fire department and the NextGen club. She also said volunteers must sign an individual waiver when they register.
Flyers were available for distribution at the meeting and Schmidt said registrants can request to work with a particular group when they sign up.
