Parks & Recreation report: pickleball designs, Little League award, packed April events and two procedural motions approved

Liz (city staff) said pickleball designs are finalized and have been submitted for permitting; the city will release the work for bid or use a cooperative contract to select a contractor. She also highlighted the Apache Junction Little League fields: new fencing, painted stenciling and a recent award from Pioneer Athletics as a “Fields of Excellence” winner for 2024; a recognition banner is expected to arrive.
Jamie, recreation staff, reviewed recent events and an April schedule packed with activities: Earth Day at Flat Iron with flower harvesting, photos with the Easter Bunny for pets at Blossom Rock on April 12, the large Easter egg hunt at Prospector Park with about 10,000 eggs and parking changes (shuttles from the rodeo grounds when lots fill) and April Pools Day on April 26 focused on drowning-prevention education in partnership with the fire department.
Jamie said summer registration is open, swim lessons opened early for Apache Junction residents and new summer offerings include art programs, CPR/first-aid certification, and a firearm-safety information course (staff to confirm whether certification is offered). She also said staff will share an updated timeline for pickleball courts at a future meeting.
