Commission member Glenn, who has been mapping trees in Buffalo Park, told the commission that identifying species in winter is difficult "because the key trait that you can use to identify trees are the leaves, the fruit, and the flowers." He said he has completed roughly a third of the park and plans to coordinate with parks staff (Sal) and commission volunteers. Glenn described the work as a multi-stage effort that could move from hand-drawn sketches to a database and interactive map: "maybe we can map it and maybe make it an interactive map and use GIS and get something bigger going there." He said the project aims for accurate identifications and that the team hopes to make substantial progress by the end of summer, depending on volunteer and staff availability.
