The commission generally welcomed the idea as a model for other business-led streetscape improvements but asked for technical clarifications before final approvals. "The box is completely above ground," Sikora Ludwig said, describing the design and adding that it would be filled with "approximately 2 foot of soil" and would not involve deep excavation beneath the existing tree. "There was no intention to cause any harm to the existing tree that is there."
The plan, proposed by business owner Robert Witch and designed by landscape designer Hannah Cohen Oppenheimer, was not represented in person at the meeting. Commissioners asked for additional detail on sight-line constraints, approvals and maintenance. "The only dimensions…
