Windows of Understanding program to feature youth work, satellite library displays and public events

City arts organizers and program staff outlined the schedule and partnerships for this season’s Windows of Understanding program, emphasizing a youth focus and community exhibitions across libraries and partner municipalities.
Cassandra (staff member) said the season opens on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 20, and runs through March 31. Artist facilitators will be paired with youth art collectives assembled from participating municipalities; Cassandra said three nonprofits in Rahway, four in New Brunswick, two in Highland Park, two in South Plainfield and one in Metuchen will be featured.
Program organizers said the window installations will be on view beginning Feb. 1. Satellite exhibitions in local public libraries will display student work tied to the program’s broad themes of “taking care of the planet and each other,” with an emphasis this year on manifestations of wellness and climate change.
Cassandra also announced a public “Tables of Understanding” event at Global Grace Cafe on Feb. 4 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and asked partners to share event dates for inclusion on the program calendar and Instagram page. Staff offered to list partner‑hosted events on the program calendar to support promotion.
No funding changes or formal procurement actions were discussed during the update.
