Lafourche Parish extension reports 4‑H growth, robotics team wins at state

The report, covering October through December activities, said extension staff partnered with Master Gardeners to run family planting events (31 families at Graceland Lower), hosted “family togetherness nights” with schools and provided nutrition and physical-activity programming. ‘‘So I'm Becky Gautreaux...We have been super busy. In front of you is our quarterly report,’’ Gautreaux said.
Gautreaux introduced Abby Halley as the extension’s new 4‑H agent. ‘‘I just moved down here very few 4 weeks ago. I grew up raising livestock back home...I’m excited to be here,’’ Halley said.
The presentation said 4‑H programming reaches every public and private school in Lafourche Parish and listed recent student accomplishments: a parish robotics program that began with Thibodaux Middle School expanded into a parish club; students won a state SeaPerch ROV competition and a LaRose Cutoff Middle School robotics team won grand champion at the Bayou Regional competition and was a state finalist in robot design. The SeaPerch team plans to seek entry to an international competition at the University of Maryland in late May.
The extension invited board members to Achievement Day on April 26 at Central Lafourche High School, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and described upcoming livestock and horse shows, 4‑H University competitions at LSU and other extracurricular events.
The report closed by thanking the board and parents for support of 4‑H activities and encouraging participation in judging and volunteer opportunities.
