Policy committee recommends dissolving technology committee, forming safety group; board to review superintendent plan

David Cook, chair of the district policy committee and a board member representing District 1, reported committee recommendations to the full board.
"We moved to have the board dissolve that committee," Cook said of the district's technology committee, which the committee found met infrequently and primarily routed device approvals back to the full board.
The committee recommended creation of a safety and security committee. Cook said the superintendent plans to establish an operational safety committee within his administration and will present his proposal at his 90‑day review; that committee would be separate from any board committee focused on oversight.
The policy committee also recommended postponing further work on the board self‑assessment until the board retreat in April, and asked board member Melanie Wellens to explore outside vendors or the South Carolina School Boards Association to assist with superintendent evaluation processes.
Cook closed by noting the committee will continue its work and return recommendations to the full board for formal action where required.
