"The total cost of the event is $16,990," staff member Tammy Scott told the board, and she said the district's established program sets a $3,000 limit per school per national event. Scott said that if the registration fee exceeds $10,000, schools may ask the board for special consideration.
Board members questioned the size of the request. "But you only asked for half instead of the full 10,000," board member Debbie Edmonds said. Scott replied, "the way that the rule is written, we can only ask for up to 50%."
No formal vote was taken. Several board members offered to help from their discretionary funds; Chairman David Cox asked the presenter to email board members so those who can assist may do so. The board did not commit district general‑fund dollars beyond the existing policy framework during the meeting.
