Commission staff told the Columbia River Gorge Commission that state-level budget activity in Washington included an amendment proposing to defund the commission, prompting outreach from the commission and partners to state lawmakers.
Executive Director Christina reported that the commission has received a number of supportive responses from Washington and Oregon legislators and that the state Office of Financial Management (OFM) has recommended continued funding for the commission in its review of the 2025–27 budget proposals. Staff said they had sent clarifying information and received requests for additional details from legislative offices.
Christina said the state budget process is now in reconciliation between the House and Senate and that the timeline for a final outcome could be “two to four weeks,” with uncertainty about the duration. The commission has also submitted additional budget materials; staff encouraged continued outreach to elected officials while the reconciliation proceeds.
No formal budget decision was made by the commission; staff requested authority to continue outreach and to await the state budget reconciliation process.
