State Representative Steve Hollowell, District 37, told the House Transportation Committee that Senate Bill 496 makes a single, targeted change to statute: it replaces the term “dealer” with “hauler” so that an outside hauler can obtain the permit necessary to transport farm equipment when hired by a dealer or farmer.
Hollowell said the dealer may still be the hauler, but the change allows farmers or dealers to use third-party haulers to move equipment without requiring the dealer to hold the permit directly. He described the measure as “just changes 1 word.”
There was no public testimony for or against the bill. Representative Carr moved for passage and the committee approved the bill by voice vote.
