Lake Havasu Council proclaims ‘Robotics Week’ and honors local FIRST team headed to world tournament

Lake Havasu City’s council on April 8 presented a proclamation recognizing the Mighty Minions FIRST robotics team and proclaimed April 5–13, 2025, as “Robotics Week — Welcome to the Future.”
Molly Hooks, head coach, and several team members described the team’s season, its innovation project focused on removing abandoned fishhooks from shorelines, and the group’s recent successes. Team members said they placed third in the Arizona State FIRST Robotics Championship and will compete at a world tournament in Massachusetts in June.
“...we will proudly represent Arizona and our hometown, Lake Havasu City, in the world’s tournament in Massachusetts,” team members said during the presentation. Mayor Kel Sheehy read a proclamation recognizing the team’s accomplishments, naming specific students and volunteer coaches, and urging residents to acknowledge contributions in STEM education.
Council members joined the team onstage for a photo; the presentation included a short recap of National Robotics Week and the role of FIRST programs in promoting STEM skills and career pathways.
