Resident raises health concerns about smart meters during public comment

During public comment at the March 20 Prescott Valley Town Council meeting, Karen Hunt of Prescott Valley urged the council to oppose smart meters, saying she had observed cases where a smart meter allegedly interfered with a pacemaker and defibrillator and that devices can cause ringing in the ears and other health issues.
Hunt said she worked as a caregiver and described one incident in which APS removed a smart meter after the household reported interference with implanted cardiac devices. "They had to take it back off and put the analog on," she said.
The mayor thanked Hunt for speaking. The council did not take immediate action on the comment; the clerk reminded the public that council response is limited to responding to criticism, asking staff to review a matter, or placing the matter on a future agenda.
