Staff says earlier letter supporting Suncoast Technical College stands; no new action requested

City staff told the commission that a letter of support previously submitted on behalf of North Port for Suncoast Technical College’s request for hurricane recovery funds remains part of the county’s record and that staff recommended no new letter be sent.
City Manager Fletcher said the city had already submitted a letter last fall in support of STC and that the county’s packet for any revisit should include that earlier correspondence. Commissioner Duvall, who had introduced the topic at a prior meeting, said he had based his inquiry on a newspaper editorial and, after staff’s clarification, indicated no further action was necessary.
No vote was taken; staff recommended relying on the prior letter and including the earlier documentation in county materials when the item returns to the county commission.
