Lexington Human Relations Commission approves camp and athletic scholarships, sets retreat date and updates bylaws schedule

The Lexington Human Relations Commission on April 7 approved several budget allocations for local youth programs, set a date for its annual retreat and amended the schedule for proposed bylaw changes.

The commission voted to fund extended-care scholarships for summer day camp for 10 children, approved a $500 youth athletic sponsorship for 10 children, set the annual retreat for May 20 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., and capped retreat lunch spending at no more than $200. Commissioners also voted to withdraw a previously planned recognition dinner for Lexington Middle School and instead provide certificates and medallions, and they approved an amended calendar to present proposed bylaw changes in May and June with a final vote in August.

Why it matters: The allocations direct existing commission funds toward summer programming and sports for children while preserving a portion of the commission’s FY2024–25 budget for other events and obligations. The bylaw schedule change delays the final vote until August, giving the bylaws committee more time to refine recommendations.
