The Lexington Human Relations Commission voted Feb. 3 to form a committee to review and propose updates to its bylaws and to present proposed changes to the full commission in April.
Commissioners discussed that the current bylaws, adopted in September 2022, include a requirement that proposed bylaw changes be presented at two different meetings before a vote. Commissioners agreed the review committee should return proposed language by the April meeting so the formal presentation sequence required by the bylaws can proceed toward a June vote.
A motion to form the committee and present draft changes was made and seconded; the motion passed by voice vote. The commission agreed members of the committee would determine whether the work would be done by the full commission or a smaller subcommittee and would report progress at the next meetings.
Commissioners noted that changes under consideration include meeting schedule adjustments and alignment with the city ordinance; they also asked staff to confirm which other city boards and commissions maintain bylaws for comparison.
Volunteers were sought for the committee during the meeting.
