Council adopts ordinance making Moore Drive–Garden Drive an all-way stop

The Lexington City Council on Jan. 27, 2025, adopted ordinance 003-2025 to add a stop requirement on Moore Drive westbound at Garden Drive, converting the intersection into an all-way stop as part of a safety reconfiguration.
Mike Horney, public works director, told council the project narrows the turning radius, lowers the intersection elevation and adds the stop sign to slow westbound traffic. “This is part of the road improvement project that we've been talking about for a little while,” Horney said.
Councilman McCurry, who said he lives near the intersection, thanked staff for the work and said residents had responded positively to the planned changes. The staff recommended adoption of the ordinance to amend the city's code of ordinances, chapter 14 (vehicular traffic), appendix A, section 101.
A motion to adopt ordinance 003-2025 was made by Councilman Myers and seconded by Councilman Wilburn; the motion carried with no recorded opposition.
Horney later updated council on the contractor schedule: resurfacing, striping and signage work was expected to finish by Thursday, weather permitting.
Action on the ordinance requires an update to the city traffic-control appendix to reflect the new stop condition for Moore Drive westbound at Garden Drive.
