Lexington HRC approves $12,000 budget request for fiscal 2025–26 to submit to city

The Lexington Human Relations Commission voted Feb. 3 to submit a $12,000 funding request to the city for the 2025–26 fiscal year, which begins July 1.
Commissioners approved the request on a motion recorded as made by Commissioner Neetra Wells and seconded by Commissioner Dwight Cartner. The motion carried by voice vote.
A staff member told the commission the request mirrors prior years’ submissions and listed intended uses: nonprofit donations, multicultural festival sponsorships, camp sponsorships, promotional items, supplies, scholarships, student recognition programming and informational workshops. “I filled out the paperwork according to what you all have received the last few years, which has been $12,000 for your budget,” staff said when presenting the form.
The staff member also noted timelines for the city budget process and asked the commission to approve the request for submission by the city’s due date.
Commissioners discussed training the commission has used previously and whether those trainings were free or provided by the state; staff confirmed prior training had been a state service.
With the vote, staff said they will submit the request to city administration for inclusion in the 2025–26 budget process.
