Navajo County supervisors approve consent agenda, grant bingo license, and declare National Crime Victims' Rights Week

The Navajo County Board of Supervisors approved routine business on its consent agenda, granted a Class A bingo license to the Big Red Barn Marketplace LLC in Heber, and adopted a proclamation declaring April 6–12, 2025 as National Crime Victims' Rights Week.

The consent agenda was presented as routine and approved with a single motion and voice vote. The board clerk opened the item, asked for questions, and, hearing none, accepted a motion and second; the chair called the ayes and declared the motion carried.

On a separate item, Melissa Thompson presented a request for a Class A bingo license for the Big Red Barn Marketplace in Heber. Thompson told the board the sheriff’s department, treasurer’s office, health department, and planning and zoning had provided approvals and that staff recommended approval. A board member moved to approve and another member seconded; the motion passed on a voice vote.

The board also considered and accepted a proclamation read by County Attorney Roxanne declaring April 6–12 as National Crime Victims' Rights Week. Roxanne read text emphasizing kinship and trauma-informed care for survivors and noted the observance has been recognized since 1981. A supervisor moved to approve the proclamation, a second followed, and the board approved it by voice vote.

The bingo license action included staff confirmation that required departmental approvals had been received; the proclamation will be observed countywide in honor of victims of crime.
