ASU offers technical assistance as Navajo County prepares renewable-energy ordinance review

Amanda Ormond, a professor of practice at Arizona State University and director of the Just Energy Transition Center, told the board during the meeting’s public-comment period that ASU can provide technical assistance on the county’s renewable-energy ordinance and related economic-development work.
"Arizona State University is available to provide technical assistance related to your ordinance on renewable energy development," Amanda Ormond said. She noted ASU’s capabilities in economics, social science and technical analysis and referenced past work in Navajo and Apache counties with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Northern Arizona University.
Ormond said the county’s transmission lines are valuable economic assets and that developers are interested in interconnection; she urged the board to consider technical analysis to guide local decisions about how to capture economic benefits for county residents. She said she planned to remain for the subsequent work session on renewable energy.
Ormond identified herself as a local resident in neighboring Coconino County and said she has worked in Arizona energy matters since the early 2000s. The board accepted the offer and noted the comment would be relevant to the upcoming work session on renewable energy development.
