Board adopts resolution to extinguish portion of Outlaw Lane easement in Tannell Basin

The Gila County Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 25-02-01 on Feb. 4 to extinguish a portion of a county dirt-road easement known as Outlaw Lane after residents petitioned the county and agreed to assume maintenance and liability.
Public works staff explained Outlaw Lane was recorded as a county dirt road (document ID 2006-018607 in county records) and had previously been accepted by the board as part of the county-maintained roadway system. Residents at the west end petitioned to extinguish the easement for a segment the board concluded was no longer necessary for public use. The board previously declared that portion no longer necessary at its July 2, 2024 meeting and directed staff to proceed with extinguishment.
Public works staff and the county surveyor recommended approval, stating the request met Gila County policy and procedure for abandonment and extinguishment. Under the resolution, the residents agreed (1) the roadway will remain usable for ingress and egress as defined in the resolution, (2) they will assume maintenance costs, and (3) they will assume liability for the roadway. Upon approval, the county will no longer maintain the extinguished portion.
Supervisors voted to adopt the resolution by voice vote with no recorded opposition.
