Gila County reports midyear general fund revenues near expectations; salaries drive higher expenditures

Gila County finance staff presented a midyear update to the Board of Supervisors on Feb. 4, saying general fund revenues through Dec. 31 were about 51% of the annual budget while expenditures were about 47% of the budget.
The presentation noted revenues were roughly $1.7 million lower than the same point last year, which staff attributed to a $3 million Department of Veterans Services grant included in the prior year. Finance staff said total expenditures for the six months ended Dec. 31 were about $633,000 higher than the prior year, driven by salaries and employee-related costs.
The report covered multiple prior fiscal years to show trends; staff asked the board whether they wished to continue receiving data for the longer window or prefer a shorter comparison set. Supervisors said a shorter window — two to five years — would be acceptable, and staff agreed to tighten the reporting window going forward while remaining ready to restore additional years on request.
The presentation was described as a routine monthly update and was followed by no formal action.
County Manager Menlove and the finance presenter stressed the intent was to give supervisors ongoing visibility before fiscal year end rather than waiting until after the books close.
Board members thanked staff for the report and for providing information that helps track multi-year budget trends.
