Eagle council rejects Beth Gray appointment to public library board

At a February special meeting, the Eagle City Council voted to deny the mayor’s nomination of Beth Gray to the Eagle Public Library Board.

Councilmembers said the pool of applicants included candidates with direct library or school-board experience and that Gray’s professional background in nursing, while impressive, did not match the specific experience some members expected for a trustee. "I don't believe she's the best candidate for the open seat, although she has a tremendous professional background in nursing and the medical field that which is very impressive," said Councilmember (speaker 3).

The councilman who opposed the nomination said he reviewed about 15 applications and resumes and objected to advancing a candidate who had not gone through the same interview process or who lacked a supporting resume. "After review of miss Gray's application resume, I don't believe she's the best candidate for the open seat... I don't like the process of recommending a candidate that has not been through an interview," Councilmember (speaker 3) said.

Councilmember (speaker 2) moved to deny action item 4A, the appointment to the Eagle Public Library Board; the motion was seconded and passed on a roll call vote. The council did not approve Gray's appointment at this meeting.

Mayor (speaker 1) said the council would continue to consider applicants and that he would bring another name back at the next council meeting, within about 10 days. "I will bring back another name on our very next council meeting," the mayor said.

The council’s denial means the library board seat remains vacant pending the mayor’s next nomination and any subsequent confirmation vote.
