Coeur d’Alene — The City Council on April 15 awarded a $1,095,000 contract to Geno Construction of Idaho to rebuild a police storage building destroyed in last year’s fire. The city received an insurance payout and will use the remainder from fund balance.
Adam Kuritko, building maintenance superintendent, said Longwell Trapp Architects revised the 2016 plans to add fire sprinklers, fire monitoring and a fire‑rated lithium‑ion charging cabinet to address lessons from the loss. Three firms bid the project; Geno Construction submitted the low bid at $1,095,000. Staff said the insurance payout on the loss was $636,800, leaving an estimated $458,200 balance to be covered by city fund balance.
Council discussion and vote - Council asked about the difference between bids and potential change orders; staff said they had evaluated the low bidder and were confident in their capacity to perform. - Completion estimate: contractor expected to mobilize the week after contract approval and to finish roughly by November.
Vote: Motion to approve resolution awarding contract to Geno Construction passed unanimously on roll call. (Miller aye; Gabriel yes; Gookin yes; English yes; Wood yes; Evans yes.)
Speakers - Adam Kuritko, Building Maintenance Superintendent (presenter) - Councilmembers who questioned timing and procurement
