Committee recommends surplusing three Parks and Recreation vehicles

The General Services Public Works committee on March 24 recommended that the council declare three vehicles assigned to the Parks and Recreation Department surplus and authorize their sale at auction.
Bill Greenwood of the Parks and Recreation Department described the vehicles as part of an aged fleet; some are more expensive to repair than to replace and one lacks available parts. “They’re just three trucks that in our aged fleet [are] to be surplused,” Greenwood said, adding the department received new trucks this year and expects to return in the budget cycle with requests for additional fleet capacity as staffing increases.
A committee member moved to recommend the council declare the vehicles surplus and authorize auction; the motion was seconded and approved by the committee. The item will be included on the council consent calendar for final action.
Greenwood said the department’s mechanics have been able to stretch resources by buying used replacement vehicles and that the department will present any future replacement requests during the regular budget process.
