The General Services Public Works Committee on Feb. 10 voted to recommend that city council approve a memorandum of understanding with the Inland Northwest Pickleball Club for use of Cherry Hill Park for the club’s annual tournament.
Adam, the city’s recreation superintendent, said the club has grown from about 320 members to more than 500 in recent years and that the MOU does not include a fixed recurring fee. Instead, the club will pay applicable tournament fees and the city may accept services, donations or maintenance (for example, pressure washing and court upkeep) to offset those fees.
Committee members discussed noise concerns raised in other jurisdictions. Adam said Cherry Hill is “well beyond that 250 foot range” cited in a news report the committee member referenced, and he noted he does not plan to install lights at Cherry Hill — a factor he said reduces the chance of evening noise disturbance. He also said Memorial Field’s nearby new homes were part of a planned development and that the city had worked with Ignite on property swaps in that area.
A motion to recommend council approve the MOU was offered, seconded and approved by voice vote; the transcript records “Motion carries” but does not include a roll-call tally.
The MOU aims to formalize the club’s annual tournament reservation and acknowledges the club’s contributions to lessons and court maintenance. The transcript does not include specific enforcement terms, insurance requirements, or a dollar figure for city acceptance of services in lieu of fees.
