Superintendent Dr. Burgos told the Shorewood School District Board of Education on Jan. 14 that the district will implement a new visitor management system and provided a brief strategic planning update.
Dr. Burgos said the district will roll out visitor‑management software that will require families and visitors entering beyond school offices to sign in and sign out. The district plans to begin initial communications to families the week of the board meeting and target implementation at the start of the second semester. Dr. Burgos described the measure as part of an ongoing review of school safety protocols following a recent tragedy in the Madison area and said the district will provide reminders and school newsletters as the program is implemented.
Dr. Burgos also reported the district’s strategic planning committee met Jan. 11 and that the third meeting included students, parents, community members and educators. She said the committee is making steady progress toward a final planning meeting on Feb. 22 and invited continued community participation in curriculum review and planning; the district will hold a community engagement session Jan. 28 on the human growth and development curriculum.
No formal board action was taken on the visitor management software at the Jan. 14 meeting; administration said it will provide communications to families in advance and proceed with implementation, including training and reminders for school staff.
