School board accepts Shorewood Foundation donation to support student activities

The Shorewood School District Board of Education voted Jan. 14 to accept a donation from the Shorewood Foundation earmarked to support student activities, recreation and student trips.

Board members said the gift will be used across multiple programs and presented the foundation officers at the meeting. The foundation leaders described a year-end initiative tied to the group’s 60th anniversary that identified several community beneficiaries, including senior services, summer recreation programming and student trips.

Jamie Reeve, president of the Shorewood Foundation, said the group deliberately sought beneficiaries across age groups and activities: “One of our goals was to reach a variety of demographics and generations.” Melissa Marska, who attended with her daughters, described the donation as meaningful for families who otherwise might not be able to afford school trips.

Board members made a motion to accept the donation “as outlined in our agenda” and called for a voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried. The board did not state the donation’s dollar amount in its public remarks; agenda materials noted the gift supports student activities and programs districtwide.

Board members thanked the foundation leaders and noted the district will follow its standard process for accepting and recording gifts. The board did not specify additional conditions or program-by-program allocations during the meeting.

The board will record the donation in its official minutes and the district’s financial records; the administration did not provide a specific timetable for public reporting of allocations at the meeting.
