Officials describe proposed 30-inch gas pipeline route through Pulaski County; landowner concerns noted

Pulaski County officials said a proposed 30-inch natural gas pipeline will cross roughly 28 miles of county land to serve the John Sherman Cooper Power Plant, and court members urged landowners to attend a planned open house with the project developer to learn more about routing and property impacts.

The court said TC Energy (headquartered in Houston) is coordinating installation and that East Kentucky Power and John Sherman Cooper Power Plant expect upgraded generation capacity that will use the line. The judge noted the line will be buried, the developer has indicated flexibility to adjust routing to avoid structures, and project proponents estimate roughly 1,000 temporary jobs during construction and generation upgrades. Officials said a public open house was expected in early June, with details to be posted when finalized.

County counsel reminded landowners that the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has delegated authority that can allow a utility to obtain easements; landowners were advised to consult private counsel if they cannot reach a negotiated agreement with the company. The court said affected landowners have received letters and that the energy company will work with landowners on routing and compensation where possible. A timeline mentioned in the meeting suggested construction and related work could extend toward 2029–2030 but officials described that schedule as preliminary.

The court asked TC Energy and related parties to host an open house for local residents so citizens can review preliminary route maps and ask questions directly of project representatives.
