Votes at a glance: Tazewell supervisors approve donations, grants, vehicle transfers and airport support agreement

Key actions approved

- Donation to IDA for Project Find: The board approved donating $125,000 to the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) for Project Find on three stated conditions: (1) the IDA match the funding for Project Find; (2) Project Find must execute a lease with the IDA for the Bluestone Shell Building pursuant to terms negotiated between the parties; and (3) the agreement must receive legal review. The motion carried.

- Landfill payment: The board approved payment of $4,260.20 related to landfill contracting matters; the county expects to seek FEMA reimbursement for some storm-related expenses.

- Surplus and disposal of county assets: The board approved surplusing a list of old hard drives and authorized sale via an online auction platform (GovDeals referenced during discussion). The county will include the engineer’s audit log in the public record.

- Fire and vehicle-related items: The board authorized a $50,000 donation from the county’s fire apparatus line-item to Baptist Valley Volunteer Fire Department toward a replacement vehicle purchase; it also approved surplusing and donating a 1987 Spartan Gladiator Grumman vehicle to Abbs Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

- Airport financing support: The board agreed to a nonbinding support resolution and authorized the chair to execute a support agreement so the Tazewell County Airport Authority may pursue up to $500,000 in VRA financing for hangar construction. - Ordinance exempting service and retired working dogs from dog license tax: Following a brief presentation and three calls for public comment (no speakers), the board adopted an ordinance to exempt police dogs, law-enforcement dogs and military working dogs — including retired and service dogs for veterans — from the county dog license tax, provided owners submit rabies vaccination proof to the treasurer on request.
