The Washington County Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of a special-exception permit allowing a small pet daycare and boarding facility to operate on approximately 5.75 acres at 27103 O'Softworks Road in the A-2 (Agricultural General) district.
Applicant Caitlin Yates described a farm-based facility with climate-controlled indoor boarding, secure outdoor run areas and an initial goal of up to nine kennels with the capacity to expand later if demand supports it. “We will adhere to strict safety standards,” Yates told the commission; she said she has begun conversations with the health department and will secure required permits and inspections before full operations.
A resident who spoke in support said the business fills a local gap for pet owners who otherwise must travel outside the county for boarding or day care. The commission moved to recommend approval as submitted and will forward the recommendation to the Board of Supervisors for final action on April 8.
