Sheriff's office clears fleet replacements, out-of-state travel; court agrees to replace only denture damaged in jail wash

Lieutenant Dexter told the court three wrecked vehicles would be replaced with 2024 model vehicles under enterprise fleet quotes 8721783 (2024 Ford Police Interceptor), 8713139 (2024 Dodge Durango) and 8721768 (2024 Ford Police Interceptor). The replacements were presented as coverage for total-loss vehicles; commissioners approved the purchase 4-0.
The court also approved out-of-state travel for investigators Matt Wright and Cody Hargrove to attend the 2025 Louisiana Forgery and Fraud Investigators Association training conference in Laplace, Louisiana. The motion passed 4-0.
Purchasing presented a request for payment in advance to Imperial Family Dentistry for $3,179 to extract existing teeth and make new dentures for inmate Ronald Quilts after the partial denture had been damaged in the jail laundry. Purchasing and Captain Haines described an incident in which bedding was placed in the washer and dryer without being shaken out and the dentures were apparently ruined. Purchasing reported the dentist recommended extraction and a full upper denture and provided a cost estimate and adjustment schedule; jail officials and the insurance contact suggested the county's obligation may be limited to replacing the damaged partial rather than paying for extractions and full dentures. Commissioner Coos moved, and Commissioner Timmons seconded, to ask staff to return to the original dentist that made the partial and to replace only what the county damaged. The court approved that amended motion 4-0.
Ending: The court directed staff to pursue replacement of the damaged partial through the original dentist and to follow the insurance office guidance; more extensive procedures or additional costs were not approved at the meeting.
