Road and Bridge Director Davis said crews have been removing fallen trees and running five to six patching crews after a period of high winds. "We are working on it feverishly," Davis said, and told commissioners that staff is "starting to make headway." Davis said Sabine Oil & Gas has agreed to donate five loads of soil-cement and the county will provide equipment and crews to make Walden's Ferry Road an all-weather surface for residents building in the area; Davis estimated the work would cover about a mile, subject to final measurement.
Commissioners approved personnel changes for the Road & Bridge Department, a pair of utility permits (Gum Springs Water Supply Corporation for a new service line on Cary Lane East/County Road 3611, and Spectrum Gulf Coast LLC for fiber on Haines Road/County Road 4308), and authorized publishing a public notice and setting a public hearing to consider abandoning 353.8 feet of Riley Road in Precinct 1 after a single landowner asked the county to abandon the segment. The court voted 4-0 on each action.
Davis also discussed ongoing patching operations and whether to expand use of newer patching trucks as the department prepares for the budget cycle. He told commissioners staff will provide numbers and estimates for adding equipment.
Ending: The court set the abandonment process in motion with a public hearing to give neighbors and other stakeholders an opportunity to weigh in before any final decision on Riley Road.
