Pulaski County announces multi-day waste tire collection; compost site hours and fees clarified

A county official announced a statewide waste-tire collection event to be hosted at the county compost site next week. The official said collection hours will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday (dates in April were described as “next week” in the meeting). The event will be held at the compost site on the 914 Bypass (between Frank Denham Road and Murphy Avenue); the speaker said signs and flyers will be posted and the county will run ads on local radio and in the paper.

The official said the event is state-run and open to Kentucky residents; county staff will host and the state Division of Waste Management will staff the event. Certain categories are not accepted (retailers, agricultural tire retailers, scrap dealers and salvage yards). The official estimated the event could draw “somewhere in the neighborhood of 70,000–80,000 tires” and asked people to spread the word.

The compost site’s regular drop-off hours were restated as Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; residents may drop storm debris for a $25 per-load fee and contractors pay $50 per load. The official said fees help cover fuel and personnel costs and that some grinding costs are covered by grants; the county has applied for its own grinder to reduce contractor expenses in future.
