Sheridan County clerk sets budget filing for April 20, schedules multi-day budget review in May

"Any changes or additions to the requested budget must be submitted by 9 a.m. Thursday, April seventeenth to either myself or Deb," Thompson said. She said after that date any further changes to create the proposed budget would have to be made formally by the board at a future meeting.
Thompson also announced a special multi-day meeting in May to review the requested budget with elected officials and department heads. She described the session schedule as starting at 10 a.m. each day, with three sessions over two days and a flexible agenda determined by the chair. "The purpose of this special meeting... is for elected officials and department heads to discuss their requested budget with the board," she said.
Thompson said a public binder containing the requested budget will be provided when the budget is filed and a public copy will be available at the meeting and afterward in the clerk’s office. She said the binder will be physically available rather than electronic.
Why it matters: the filing date and submission deadline set the timeline for the county’s budget process and the May special meeting is the primary opportunity for department heads and elected officials to present and justify budget requests before the board drafts a proposed budget. Thompson urged officials and members of the public to attend sessions relevant to them.
