Solid waste staff told the court the program would mirror previous events and would take controlled household hazardous materials such as household chemicals, batteries and fire extinguishers, and electronics that are not suitable for regular trash collection. Staff received multiple vendor quotes for hazardous waste handling and for electronics recycling and recommended the same vendors used in prior years as the lowest‑cost responsive bidders. Advertising quotes for local newspaper and radio were also presented.
Staff warned the court that prior events incurred additional county expense when large volumes of unusual items (for example, many fire extinguishers or agricultural pesticides) were brought to the event; the state award in past years covered less than requested, leaving the county to cover remaining costs. The court approved the application and associated quotes while noting the county may still need to contribute funds if the state award is smaller than requested.
