Boyle County approves $734,804 recycling grant application; recycling center repairs continue after fire

The Boyle County Fiscal Court voted March 25 to apply for a recycling grant that director Angie Monty said would fund equipment to expand the county recycling program, including a glass pulverizer and a single‑operator foam recycler.

Monty told the court the grant total, with in‑kind matches included, is $734,804 and that “our matches all in kind.” The grant request would pay for equipment she said will allow glass to be pulverized into sand for reuse and a foam recycler that can be fed by one operator and produces reusable blocks.

The grant application drew a motion and an approval by voice vote. The court approved the application to apply for the recycling grant; no contract award or purchase was recorded at the meeting—the vote authorized filing the grant application.

Recycling center status: Monty also updated the court on a fire at the county recycling center that damaged an office area and caused smoke exposure. She said contractors were working on repairs and that drop‑offs were being accepted while staff catch up from business backups. Monty said municipal equipment vendors were inspecting affected equipment and that “the building looks great” as repairs proceed.

Why it matters: The proposed equipment could broaden local recycling options (glass and foam) and enable regional collection, Monty said. The county’s grant application uses in‑kind matching rather than cash, she told the court.
