The Liberty County Commissioners Court voted to approve an interlocal agreement with San Jacinto County to house inmates, renewing an arrangement the sheriff recommended.
Commissioner Greg Sexton moved the agreement and Commissioner David seconded; the court approved the renewal by voice vote. Commissioners said the per-diem terms appeared better than other recent arrangements and that maintaining multiple agreements with different facilities is a common practice to ensure beds are available.
During discussion a commissioner said that other counties had charged “about a hundred dollars a day per night” while the San Jacinto arrangement looked closer to $65 per day. The court did not enumerate a fixed daily rate in the meeting record; the sheriff’s office and county purchasing will take responsibility for administering the contract.
The motion passed and the court returned to other business.
