Commission authorizes recruitment for full-time IT support technician to bolster county IT capacity
Summary
To build redundancy and support an Office 365 migration, the Stark County Commission approved recruiting a full-time IT support technician at a proposed starting pay of $23.75/hour. Commissioners debated budget timing and reliance on contractor support before approving the recruitment by roll call (3–2).

The commission voted to authorize a county recruitment to add a full-time IT support technician to provide day-to-day helpdesk functions, assist with a planned migration to Microsoft Office 365, and to build redundancy for the existing IT coordinator.
County IT staff described a spike in ticket volume after implementing a formal ticketing system; the IT coordinator has been handling troubleshooting, project work and security maintenance. Commissioners and staff discussed the hourly cost and how the new position would fit the current year budget (consolidated contract hours were reduced this year, producing an offset that staff said would cover the remainder of 2025 costs). The proposed hourly rate in the packet was $23.75/hour plus benefits; commissioners asked staff to return budget details and planned next steps during recruitment.
The motion to authorize recruitment passed by roll-call vote (three ayes, two no votes). The IT committee and HR will post a job description, begin recruitment and coordinate with the existing IT contractor for migration support; staff flagged that Office 2019 reaches end-of-support in October and urged moving to cloud-based Office 365 to avoid security vulnerabilities.
Commissioners asked for a follow-up plan showing how the new hire, ongoing contractor support and licensing costs will be handled in 2026 budget proposals.
