Board asks staff to arrange scan of reused tubing after Pathfinder purchase

Stark County staff were asked to confirm whether recently purchased tubing from Pathfinder has been cleaned to background radiation levels before reuse at the fairgrounds.
Lisa Heizer, staff member, said the county bought a second batch of tubing from Pathfinder to repair and extend livestock-panel structures at the fairgrounds and expects to reuse panels after straightening. Board members raised safety concerns about whether the reused tubing had been scanned or certified safe for unrestricted use.
Heizer said she would "check with Pathfinder too to see if they have a process of what they're doing" and agreed to contact a contractor that does radiation scans. A board member suggested Bronco Environmental; staff identified a likely contact as Dalton Kuhn with Bronco Environmental and noted the contractor has Geiger counters and pressure-wash capabilities.
Board members emphasized protection for workers who will weld or handle the tubing. Staff said they would reach out to Bronco Environmental, ask Pathfinder about their cleaning process, and report back with scan results.
This was a direction to staff rather than a formal motion; no vote was recorded.
