Williams County approves equipment purchase, easement and contracts; authorizes building purchase agreement

Williams County commissioners approved several capital and contracting items including the purchase of a used loader, easement approvals, contract signature authority for pavement marking and chip-seal work, and authorization to proceed with a building purchase agreement.

Acting on behalf of the absent highway superintendent, staff presented a bid recommendation for a used loader at $170,002.10. The commission voted to approve the purchase on a roll-call vote. The county also approved and authorized the chairman to sign an easement for a County Road 42 project in Truax; staff said the easement is tied to a road contract the county has already awarded and will allow the project to proceed.

On contracts, the commission gave the chairman permission to sign an existing pavement-marking contract with Traffic Safety Services Inc. and to sign the forthcoming countywide chip-seal contract when it arrives. Commissioners stated the delegation is meant to avoid procurement delays and to streamline award signatures.

Separately, commissioners approved a purchase agreement for a building (an old airport hangar) that the county intends to acquire and then transfer to the park district for long-term use; the county noted existing authorization to use 1% public-safety sales-tax funds for this purchase and an appraisal will be completed as a condition of closing.

All motions on these items passed on recorded roll-call votes. Staff said the county will proceed with required closing documents, sign the pavement-marking contract, and schedule the chip-seal contract when it is delivered to the county.
