Commissioners approve vehicle repairs, additional maintenance funds and $150,000 for sheriff’s move

Midland County commissioners on March 4 approved multiple funding actions to keep sheriff’s operations mobile and to cover relocation costs for the sheriff’s move to a new facility.
The court approved a transmission replacement for a patrol vehicle (listed in the meeting as Unit 15911) with an estimated cost of $12,709.58. Fleet staff reported the vehicle has roughly 90,000 miles and that a replacement transmission would carry a three‑year/100,000‑mile warranty if installed by an authorized GM dealer.
Commissioners also approved an additional $10,000 transfer from contingency into the sheriff’s CID noncontract vehicle maintenance line. Sheriff’s staff said they had ordered six new vehicles that should reduce maintenance demands once delivered, but the department was exceeding its existing noncontract maintenance allocation while waiting for those replacements.
Separately, the court approved a $150,000 contingency allocation to cover moving expenses for the sheriff’s relocation to the new facility. Sheriff’s staff said the amount would cover contracted movers, evidence‑room transfers and other moving‑related costs; the move will occur in phases beginning mid‑March.
All three funding actions were approved by voice vote.
