The Commissioners Court accepted a $5,000 donation from Texas MBM Properties LLC designated for the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) victim assistance program and separately acknowledged annual grant funds the sheriff's office received for law enforcement training.
Sheriff's staff explained the $5,000 check was mailed to the county; staff reconciled the donation and the court voted to accept the funds for CIU victim assistance. Later, the court acknowledged an annual grant from the Texas law enforcement auditors' office (for Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education) that the sheriff's office uses for training. Commissioners discussed whether constables had applied for and received similar funds in the past and confirmed constables must apply separately to receive their own awards.
Both motions passed by voice vote. During the discussion the court also addressed an unrelated request from a commissioner for vehicle assignment information, and the sheriff's office committed to providing vehicle-status details by the next court meeting on April 1.
