District issues RFP for food service; Aramark and Chartwells submitted bids

Northbridge School Committee members heard an update that the district has issued a request for proposals for its food services management contract and has received two proposals, from Aramark and Chartwells.
Staff said the current arrangement with a management company began in 2010 and that the RFP is issued every three years. The typical contract structure is one year with two one‑year renewal options. "We had 4 food service management companies come in to actually tour our facilities and come to our pre bid meeting. And we have received 2 proposals from from 2 different companies, 1 being Aramark and 1 being Chartwells," a staff member reported.
District staff explained that the state has provided a template and timeline the district is following to complete the process; the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) must be notified by April 25 of the district's recommended vendor. The evaluation is in progress and a recommendation will be brought to the next school committee meeting for a vote.
No recommendation was made at this meeting and no vendor was selected. The district noted the typical timeline for notification to DESE will align with the committee's next meeting.
