Board authorizes solicitation for CNP summer meal boxes after successful first year

The Bossier Parish School Board on March 20 authorized staff to issue a solicitation to select a vendor to supply Child Nutrition Program (CNP) summer meal boxes for 2025.
Carrie Douglas, who presented the item, told the board that last summer the program distributed “about half a million or over half a million meals” to Bossier Parish families and that the district would again solicit a vendor to provide boxed summer meals. Douglas said the program operates with federal support structured as a reimbursement or rebate per meal and that the initiative was revenue-positive in its first year after start-up costs.
Board member Bullard asked where funding for the program is derived; Douglas said the program functions through federal reimbursement mechanisms and that staff would provide more details as needed. Douglas credited Child Nutrition staff and named Wharton’s team for efficiencies learned during the pilot year.
