Board OKs extended facility-use agreements for Benton and Bossier High fields; district retains fees

The Bossier Parish School Board's building and grounds committee authorized extended facility-usage agreements for Benton High School's baseball field and Bossier High School's baseball and softball fields, approving staff-recommended fee adjustments.
Facilities presenter John Cottom described four requests (one at Benton, three at Bossier High) that largely cover spring and summer months and include youth and adult leagues. Gary Smith, athletic director for Bossier High School, told the committee coaches and school staff have met with organizers and will help with upkeep: "we'd really like them, of course, to do a good job with the upkeep of the facilities," Smith said.
Committee discussion focused on who receives usage revenue. Board member Mister Newman asked whether the $800 adult-league fee goes to the teams or the school. Staff explained the district policy is to have facility-usage revenue go to the district to cover maintenance, utilities and other site expenses; Miss Bamberg's department invoices users and funds are remitted to the district. The committee also noted that in this case the booster club will provide loads of dirt to help field conditions in addition to paying fees.
A motion to authorize the extended agreements with staff-recommended fee adjustments carried; the committee did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript.
