The district's Foundation for Excellence presented a mini‑grant update to the board describing recent fundraising and grant activity that supports classroom projects across Walled Lake Consolidated Schools.
Jackie Girwin, executive director of the Foundation for Excellence, said the foundation concluded a tuition‑expedition raffle that produced over $10,000 in proceeds and awarded $11,000 in scholarship funds. The foundation also visited about 70 classrooms and awarded at least one grant at every school, returning more than $51,000 to classrooms for items including musical instruments, physical‑education equipment, literacy materials, leadership training, appliances for a cognitively impaired classroom and science tools.
Presenters and several teachers described grants as enabling purchases that otherwise would not be available in classrooms. The foundation announced a staff appreciation fundraiser and a golf scramble on June 16 as upcoming fundraisers; six sponsors had already signed up for the golf event.
No board action was required; the item was informational.
