Board authorizes three-year contract for Charles David Daugherty as superintendent

The Dorchester County School District 2 Board of Trustees on April 14 voted to authorize the board chair to execute a three‑year employment contract with Charles David Daugherty as superintendent, effective April 14, 2025.

The motion, to approve a contract through June 30, 2028 at an annual salary of $210,000, was moved in open session following an executive session and was seconded by Board Member Lee. The board voted 7-0 to approve the contract.

Board members who spoke after the vote praised Daugherty’s leadership and emphasis on relationships. One member said Daugherty had “stepped up for our school district during a very difficult time.” Another noted the district’s strong local culture and said Daugherty “now hold[s] the mantle to a very, very special place.”

The board made the decision after convening in executive session earlier in the meeting to discuss personnel matters regarding the superintendent. The board chair was authorized to sign the employment agreement prepared by the district’s attorneys.

The approval completes a formal hiring step for the district’s chief executive. The contract was described on the record by a board member as prepared by counsel and reviewed by board members prior to the vote. No additional conditions or amendments to the contract were announced on the record.

Board Chair Dr. Wimberley and district leaders did not provide further public details of the contract beyond the term and annual salary recorded in the motion.
