Zoning committee approves rezone of former mineral extraction parcel for single-family home

The Walworth County Zoning Committee on March 20 approved a rezoning request that converts approximately 5.03 acres of former mineral-extraction land to C-2 (Upland Resource Conservation) so the owner may build a single-family residence.
County planner Kate reported the parcel is in the southeast corner of Section 17 in Lafayette Township (tax parcel KLF 17-5A) and is currently zoned M-3 (mineral extraction), C-1 (wetland) and C-4 (shoreland wetland). The Walworth County 2050 Land Use Plan identifies portions of the site as extractive and as primary environmental corridor. Kate said the parcel has not been used for mineral extraction for several years.
Applicant Thomas Weber said he purchased the parcel and intends to rezone a portion to build a house for family reasons. The town of Lafayette responded to the county with an approval recommendation.
Committee member Dennis Karbowski moved to approve the rezone and the motion, seconded by Bud Wojcik, carried by voice vote.
