Walworth County CDEB approves 2025-26 Lakeland School calendar with small daily schedule increase

The Walworth County Children with Disabilities Education Board on Wednesday approved the Lakeland School 2025-26 school calendar after a presentation from Principal Smith.
The calendar sets Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2025, as the first day for students and Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as the last day; it adds five minutes to the daily schedule and incorporates an additional six minutes of instructional design for a total increase of 11 minutes per day, Principal Smith said.
Principal Smith said the added minutes allow for consistency in start and end dates and more professional development time for staff. “With this extension, we were able to get an additional day of time,” Smith said, noting the calendar moves teacher checkout into June and expands staff in-service from 3½ days to 4½ days.
Board members were also told the calendar includes two new staff orientation days in August, three built-in inclement-weather days, and a contingency that if those days are exhausted, the district will revert to its existing virtual-learning procedures. The plan also formalizes summer-school session dates and introduces a “family engagement flex” requirement: staff will have 18 hours per year for family engagement activities, including three hours earned by staffing an after-school event, which translates to roughly five hours per trimester for scheduled outreach and prep.
Why this matters: the changes are intended to provide more consistent instructional minutes, increase training time for staff and create scheduled opportunities for family engagement, which district staff framed as a priority for student outcomes.
The board approved the calendar by voice vote; those present said “aye” and no opposition was recorded on the transcript.
